Meet us in Beverly Hills to see symposium sessions featuring Academy Award nominees. Speaker panels give insight into the art of filmmaking: story, setting, character…and special effects!

Event Schedule
10-12 pm Session One
12-3 pm Lunch on your own – participants often drive over to the Farmer’s Market
3-5 pm Session Two
Tickets are $10—which includes both sessions—and are non-refundable.
These tickets are offered on a first come first serve basis, and are limited to 4 tickets per person.
All sales are final. NO refunds and NO reselling tickets.

Event Details
Be there at least 30 minutes early (Plan for traffic, parking, & walking to the theater). Stand-by tickets for any unfilled seats will be available shortly before the beginning of a sold-out event. Holding a previously purchased ticket does not guarantee a seat after seat availability has been counted for stand-by tickets.
Attire: The majority of women wear dresses or dress pants and men wear slacks, long sleeved shirt and tie. (No long formal dresses.)
Seating: They are reserving a section of seats for our group. Look for the reserved seats labeled SCBWI San Diego. Our tickets have a blue fleur de lis on the back and will grant access to our reserved section. Doors typically open one hour before the start of each event. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. There is no late seating.

The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is a world-class theater. The theater’s 1,012 seats are on the second floor of the headquarters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

Complimentary parking fills up fast – so plan to arrive early. In addition, parking facilities close 30 minutes after the conclusion of an event.
Theater Policies
Accessibility Services and Assistive Listening Devices: Wheelchair access is provided. Wireless assistive listening devices for the hearing impaired are available upon request.
Food and Beverages: No food or beverages of any kind are allowed in our theaters. Filtered water fountains are located in the lobbies. (They will make you throw out any food or liquid in your bags. (Including gum and mints!) They are searched at the entrance for food/liquid. We suggest bringing an empty water bottle and filling it at the fountains if you absolutely need it.)
Security: Please be advised that members of the public attending events at the Academy’s theaters are subject to security checks: a visual inspection of all purses/bags and metal detector screening.
Photography: No unauthorized photography is allowed. (I’ve brought a camera. Just be cool about it; use a zoom if you have one.) Do NOT use flash.
Oscar Statutes: They do not want photos of the Oscar statues. (I did take some and was able to get permission from them to use them one in a High School Year Book to highlight the trip the students took, but, I did get permission before allowing it to be used by the yearbook staff.) Absolutely no permission will be given to put any photos of the Oscar statues on the web. If you manage to take some of yourself or a friend by the statues, they can only be for personal use.)
Autographs: As a courtesy to speakers, hosts and invited guests, the Academy has a “no autographs” policy at all events.
