If You Give a Child a Book

Laura Numeroff, author, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie series

What makes a successful series? How do you create characters and stories that children love? Let’s kick off the 2020-21 San Diego chapter meeting season with an insightful and  inspirational talk, If You Give a Kid a Book, with New York Times bestselling author, Laura Numeroff. Laura will share how her parents and some kind Brooklyn librarians instilled in her a lifetime passion for music, art and books, and how that early exposure to children’s books shaped her life and career. She will also provide writing tips to help authors and illustrators craft compelling characters and stories. As the author of several popular series, Laura’s talk will also offer advice for creating a successful series.

Laura Numeroff is the New York Times bestselling author of over 40 children’s books, most notably If You give a Mouse a Cookie and eight other titles in the If You Give… series.  Laura is also the proud author of Raising a Hero, about a boy helping to raise a puppy to become a service dog.  She is also the author of the popular Jellybeans series as well as Beatrice Doesn’t Want To.
