Founder of Full Circle Literacy Stefanie Von Borstel and Literary Agent Taylor Martindale Kean’s intensive will take us on a journey into The Heart of Middle Grade novel.

Intensive: The Heart of Middle Grade – Many agents and editors are looking for middle grade novels with heart– but what does this mean? In this intensive, Von Borstel and Kean will discuss what makes middle grade novels so strong, the core of what draws readers to great books. They will discuss recent middle grade releases in various categories including contemporary, historical, mystery and fantasy. They will cover character, plotting, first pages, and the balance of story and overall message of a book. They will examine great mentor texts, but also discuss how to approach revision for works in development. There will be writing activities, and time for Q&A.

What to bring: Your preferred writing utensils, notebook, or computer, the first three pages of your novel in development, and the two to three most important scenes in your book.

Full Circle Literary has represented books that have been awarded an ALA Schneider Family Award, Pura Belpré Awards and Honors, William C. Morris Honor, Stonewall Award Honor, The Christopher Award, NCTE Orbis Pictus Honor for Best Nonfiction, and Agatha Award for Best Mystery for Young Readers.
